Together with Syb van Breda, this bridge, the Joop van der Reijdenbrug, at Katwijk was realized. Katwijk and Oegstgeest are separated by the Oude Rijn. Due to the steady construction of new residential areas, a pedestrian-bicycle connection has become essential. The municipality of Katwijk has tendered the design and construction in an integral contract. Together with architect Syb van Breda, PT-Structural was engaged by the construction combination Strukton Infratechnieken and BSB Staalbouw, with whom the competition was won in the run-up to the project.
The design is a slender steel swing bridge. The bridge swings open horizontally over a slewing ring bearing. The pivot point is on the Valkenburg side. The rotating part is kept in balance by a 12 meter high, sloping counterweight; a pylon.
Among other things, the bridge scored high on the image quality theme. According to the jury, the bridge is slender and slender and striking. Because of the pylon, the bridge has its own character in the area. Because the bridge on the underside only has 2 support points, the view from the water below the bridge is good.
